Brian Franklyn Mandell

Brian Mandell is professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, he is a board member of the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society.

Dr. Mandell has held several appointments and is currently the Vice Chairman of Medicine for Education and director of the Internal Medicine Residency Scholarly Activity Program at the Cleveland Clinic. He also is the editor-in-chief of the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.

Active in professional organizations, Dr. Mandell currently serves on the American College of Rheumatology Committee on Education, Abbott Pharmaceuticals Advanced Rheumatology Scholar Advisory Committee, editorial board of The Journal of Clinical Rheumatology and is the Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) Rheumatology Book Editor for the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Mandell's areas of interest include vasculitis, gout, systemic lupus and multi-system involvement from autoimmune disease. He has published 60 papers in medical journals including the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, Arthritis & Rheumatism, Journal of Clinical Investigation and the Journal of Clinical Rheumatology.

Dr. Mandell received a bachelor's degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, a medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in New York, New York, and a doctorate in physiology and biophysics from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He underwent his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in rheumatology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
